What is One Mom?
One Mom is a grassroots initiative that supports single mothers through community-based economic advocacy. The Single Mothers Discount Card has merged with One Mom, and the program now operates as the One Mom Card. The mission remains the same: to help single mothers access community-based discounts while building a sustainable model that allows this support to grow.

How do I get a One Mom Card?
Single mothers can sign up to receive a One Mom Card (formerly the Single Mothers Discount Card). Membership is currently free. As One Mom grows, we may introduce low-cost or pay-what-you-can options to help sustain the program while keeping access equitable.

Why focus on single mothers?

Approximately 80% of single-parent families in the U.S. are headed by single mothers. Women earn about 18% less than men on average, with even larger gaps for women of color. After separation or divorce, women often carry a disproportionate financial burden.
Single mothers (and those that are close to them) know too well the disadvantages that they and their children are at risk for. But others are not as aware. In educating people about the injustices of the current legal system and the financial inequities inherent in being a woman, we hope to, slowly but surely, make a difference at the policy level. One Mom exists to address these inequities at the community level—one purchase, one partnership, and one conversation at a time.

I’m a single mother. How do I join?
You can sign up online to receive your One Mom Card. Membership is currently free, and our long-term goal is to ensure cost is never a barrier to participation.

I own a business. How can I participate?
Businesses can support single mothers by offering discounts to One Mom members and by advertising in our online magazine: www.onemommag.com. Advertising and partnerships help sustain One Mom while connecting businesses with a highly engaged community. To inquire about advertising or partnership opportunities, email [email protected].

What discounts are offered?
Each participating business determines its own discount. In some cases, the business owner and the member decide together. A commonly suggested benchmark is **18%**, reflecting the current gender pay gap in the U.S.

I’d like to support One Mom financially. How can I help?
There are several ways to support the work:
  • Businesses can advertise or partner with One Mom.
  • Individuals may contribute through donations or future membership options.
All funds are used to sustain operations, expand partnerships, and keep the program accessible to single mothers.

How do I use the card?
Ask a business if they honor the One Mom Card and show them your card. If they participate, you receive a discount. If not, you’ve still helped raise awareness and build momentum for change.

I’m not a single mother. Can I still support One Mom?
Yes. Supporters can:
  • Donate or contribute financially
  • Share www.onemommag.com
  • Encourage businesses to participate or advertise
Community support helps One Mom remain viable and impactful.

Do I need to prove I’m a single mother?
No. The One Mom Card operates on an honor system. Vendors are asked to accept the card and the member’s word.

What if a business says no?
That’s okay. Asking costs nothing and helps normalize conversations about equity and support for single-mother families.

What types of purchases can be discounted?
Any participating business may offer discounts. Members commonly use the card for groceries, clothing, services, travel, and activities—for themselves or their children.

I receive child support or co-parent. Can I still use the card?
Yes. Even with support, single mothers are statistically more likely to shoulder greater financial and time responsibilities. Using the card also helps strengthen the broader movement.

My children are grown. Can I still use the card?
Yes. Many single mothers continue to provide financial support beyond childhood and may still be navigating long-term economic impacts from earlier years.

Can other caregivers use the card?
While One Mom centers single mothers, caregivers raising children alone—including adoptive parents, foster parents, grandparents, and single fathers—are encouraged to speak with vendors about their needs and request support.

Can the One Mom Card be used outside the U.S.?
Yes. The card can be used wherever businesses choose to participate. One Mom members currently live in nearly every U.S. state and in 14 countries.
